At Kehoe Designs, we thrive on the opportunity to create something truly extraordinary. So, when a fashion-forward couple came to us wanting something that had never been done, we got to work doing what we do best. After all, couples should have a day that uniquely celebrates their union and expresses a personalized aesthetic. For this couple, the vision was clear: “Magazine-worthy.”
Senior Event Producer Mathew Lahey was behind transforming this wedding into an unforgettable celebration. He began by igniting inspiration during their initial design consultation, where he learned about the couple’s unique story and vision. Mathew then brought these ideas to life by curating a collection of inspirational images and sketches, selected with precision to ensure that every detail aligned perfectly with the couple’s aspirations.
That alignment looked like a mix of untraditional and minimalist details: an event that felt more like an art soirée than a wedding. Our team proposed sculptural petrified wood details, warm colors, and airy fabrics—evoking a feeling of seasonal rebirth, like winter thawing into spring.
Following the initial consultation, we invited our clients to a sample viewing where they immersed themselves in the design elements of their day. Picture this: fabrics, vessels, and florals beautifully arranged in a dedicated room, transforming it into a preview of their wedding. For custom elements, our in-house design team crafts prototypes, ready for client approval. The atmosphere is also enhanced with carefully curated lighting and music, allowing clients to fully visualize the ambiance.
Mathew highlights the importance of this meeting, where dreams start to take tangible form. By showcasing these elements in person, clients can truly envision their day, ensuring every detail aligns with their unique vision–elevating the excitement for the celebration ahead.
Fast forward to the big day, guests are received at the elegant Venue Six10 multi-level event space. The evening started on the building’s 10th floor with an intimate ceremony featuring a custom-designed, subtle tone-on-tone Chuppah accented with asymmetrical florals and
framed by layered candles. After the vows, guests moved into a relaxed cocktail loft that overlooked the 9th floor reception.
It was essential that the transition from the ceremony to the reception was a wow moment. And we achieved it with impactful ceiling décor—trussed, wavy fabric that floated over the reception space—and an eye-catching dance floor that featured a custom painting: a dreamy drop of black ink diffusing out on the surface. Mathew cites these elements as two of his favorites, recalling how incredible the ceiling and the dance floor contrasted and how the semi-translucent hanging textiles took in light and air in stunning ways.
Mathew knows that getting an event right is also all about nailing the details. Black water goblets on each table tied the room together, which was dotted with refined black seating that achieved a residential party vibe. “Experiencing the design in action and walking through with the client, showing them everything and seeing their reaction,” is one of the most rewarding parts of the process, according to Mathew — who likes to stand at the door of events and watch the surprise on guests’ faces.
The production value of this wedding matched the breathtaking energy of its design, centered around a personalized “11:11” theme—a meaningful nod to the couple’s story and their special date. Our BlackOak Technical Productions team artfully wove this detail throughout the space, using soft waves of textured wall lighting to create a dreamlike atmosphere. This integration helped to seamlessly blend both celebrations together.
Mathew reflects that one of the most rewarding parts of designing events is the clients’ appreciation—the affirmation that we got it right. This wedding was no exception. The couple sought something truly unique, and we delivered an irreplicable event that emphasized personalized “11:11” themes with dreamlike, textured lighting; artistic floral design; and impactful décor. This unforgettable event perfectly showcased our ability to transform visions into extraordinary realities.
